Birth Certificate / Registration

A birth certificate is one of the most important documents issued by the government that gives information about your child such as date of birth, place, gender etc. It is one of the most widely used identity document.

What is a birth certificate?

According to Wikipedia, “A birth certificate is a vital record that documents the birth of a person. The term "birth certificate" can refer to either the original document certifying the circumstances of the birth or to a certified copy of or representation of the ensuing registration of that birth. Depending on the jurisdiction, a record of birth might or might not contain verification of the event by such as a midwife or doctor.”

Documents required for Birth Certificate which has to be taken from Hospital

• Registration slip (Provided by Hospital)
• Hospital Discharge paper
• Govt. ID of Father (Aadhaar, Voter ID etc.)
• Govt. ID of Mother (Aadhaar, Voter ID etc.)
• Affidavit for the child's name incorporation
• Date of birth .
• Location of birth.
• Registration Number provided by hospital

What if you are not capable of making changes to your birth certificate?

Not everyone is allowed to make changes to a birth certificate. An individual can make changes to their own birth certificate as and when they would want to. Furthermore, parents are allowed to make changes to the birth certificates of their children, if they are minors. They would also be allowed to make these changes in situations where the individual cannot make them themselves. There are instances where siblings were allowed to make changes to birth certificates but there has always been a direct reason and it was usually agreed between all parties involved.

In most cases, where the individual is no longer a minor, the changes would have to be made by them themselves, unless they approve a close family member handling them. Another major part of making a change to birth certificate information would require having an original birth certificate. This is something that can only be obtained by family embers which reduce the chance of someone else handling such changes.
